School Committee approves $21.5M FY27 budget with staffing cuts

Winchendon approves $21.5M school budget with staffing adjustments. The School Committee unanimously backed the FY27 budget of $21,525,206, comprising $18,667,547 in general fund and $3,666,273 in local contribution. The budget includes elimination of an unfilled Special Education position at Memorial School, a total reduction of four positions tied to IEP caseload, and replacement of a guidance position with a dean of students.

Superintendent C. King told the committee that survey data identified more rigorous academic programming and competitive sports as the primary factors drawing students to other districts.
