Finance Committee recommends $20.77M operating budget for fiscal 2027

Winchendon Finance Committee endorses $20.77 million operating budget and water rate hike. Chair Thomas J. Kane Jr. led the committee through recommendations on 29 warrant articles for the May 18 Annual Town Meeting, unanimously backing the $20,770,350 fiscal 2027 operating budget and approving a 23 percent water rate increase.

The Winchendon Public Schools budget of $18,667,547 received a 6-1 recommendation, exceeding the state spending requirement by $458,194; wastewater rates will rise 13 percent. The water main project came in under budget, and the state provided a 29 percent grant that does not require repayment.
