Winchendon Finance Committee flags $634,000 budget shortfall. Chair Thomas J. Kane Jr. presented a report that the committee unanimously approved, warning that anticipated revenues of $39.4 million will fall short of budgeted expenses of $40 million, leaving a $634,000 gap.
The town must develop a plan to balance next fiscal year without relying on free cash. Special education and homeless transportation are each overspent approximately $50,000 year to date. Capital Planning Committee officials also expressed concern about using one-time funds to address structural budget gaps.
