Finance Committee approves February minutes, discusses fire ambulance expansion

Finance Committee · Meeting of March 10, 2026

Winchendon Finance Committee reviews fire ambulance expansion proposal. Chair Thomas J. Kane Jr. and the committee heard Fire Chief Tom Smith present a plan to hire two additional firefighters to handle ambulance calls from Clearbrook treatment center, currently covered by Templeton.

The proposal projects approximately $123,000 in new revenue from Clearbrook and in-town calls, with a net gain of $544,000 after the $172,467 cost of hiring the two firefighters. The committee also reviewed year-to-date budget reports, flagging significant discrepancies including a $350,000 overage in Snow and Ice and a 665 percent overage in the MMHS building line.
