Winchendon board presents $40.1M budget amid utility rate hikes. Town Manager William McKinney presented the FY27 budget to the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee on March 30, proposing $40.1 million in expenses and using $634,994 in free cash reserves. Water rates will increase 23 percent and sewer rates 13 percent to cover higher retirement costs (up 10 percent annually through 2035), health insurance (up 8.5 percent), and two new firefighter positions.
Board members questioned school transportation costs and the town's approach to reducing dependence on reserve fund drawdowns.
